The ram type injection machine can have a very high tonnage depending on its piston diameter. But it is less energy efficient than the toggle type because the fluid continues to be pumped throughout the injection cycle.
The toggle type injection machine is only up to 2000 tons (I think) mainly due to the power capacity of the motor or the strength of its linkage. The linkage is only as strong as its weakest link. It is energy efficient because it consumes power only when the motor rotates.</description>
